Student Wellbeing
We take students’ well-being very seriously and have a range of supportive measures in place to help students deal with the challenges they face at this stage of life.
Each morning’s form time is used to support students in making the transition from Year 11 through to Year 13. Students benefit from mixed forms of Year 12 and 13 and a form tutor dedicated to providing pastoral support. In Form times we provide peer mentoring between Year 13 and 12 students and in each form two prefects act as the student voice and are trained as mental health ambassadors. In Form times we also have a focus on Oracy with weekly presentations and debates to help all students to find their voice and practice being able to articulate their views clearly.
Students can also access support from the Sixth Form’s extensive pastoral care network that includes a Head of Sixth Form, a Sixth Form Academic Lead, a Sixth Form Pastoral Lead, two full time Sixth Form administrators, a team of experienced form tutors, and in school counselling service, which students are able to self refer to.
Swakeleys Sixth Form also has a well-established and varied PSHCE programme that is designed to prepare students for life after Sixth Form. The two-year programme includes sessions on mental and physical well-being, financial management, and sex, relationship and drug education. Sessions are delivered by teachers and guest speakers from a range of industries. Sessions, especially in Year 13 are focused on preparing for living independently – such as Cooking, accessing healthcare, and financial management.
